Jun. 2nd, 2002 02:37 pmI have discovered a new form of polyamory: SCA-polyamory. Apparently there are a lot of people who have open relationships, but only at an SCA event. I guess that explains the phrase "If ya canna get laid in the SCA, you canna get laid at all."
It never occurred to me that there would be such a division. But it makes sense. The SCA is a virtual reality. It's a conscious step out of the Real World (tm) into a world with internal rules and laws. Being a Baron means something serious, in the SCA. The King is actually important, even if he has no real power and is just the guy who can beat up on people the best that year.
All the people out there trying to make new cultures and change societies and carve out a new way of living from the harshness of the modern age have pretty much failed. But the SCA has succeeded, inadvertantly.
Now, isn't that interesting?
I envy musicians. Instrumental musicians, composers, singer, the lot. Because music is more expressive than just language (where I have some talent). Only the most talented poets can ever really express the totality of human emotion, but music operates on several different levels simultaneously (especially music with lyrics). We hear music both consciously and subconsciousy, process it with our intellect and our heart.
I can talk about ecstasy and faith and power and inspiration until I am blue in the face. Real, full, powerful expression is the perview of the musician.
There are three basic principles: Laugther, Focus and Synthesis.
Laugther expands. Focus contracts. Synthesis combines.
When Laughter and Focus collide, we have Passion.
When Laughter and Synthesis cross, we have Innovation.
When Focus and Synthesis meeet, we have Intellect.
When all three connect, we have Gnosis.
When all three are absent, we have Silence.
The Players so far: Blind Energy, The Shaman, Lipstick & Lace, The Queen of Acid and Ice, The Lord of Masks, Sapphire, Flair, Blind Dancer, Spidersilk, Poetic Vengence, Snowqueen, Water Fire, Burning Grasp, Vicesmith, Naked Edge, Malachite, Thunderclap, Poetic Vengence, The Black Adept, Roaring Echoes, Crystalwood, Song of the Rose, Thunderbolt, Lady Draconis, The Valkyrie, The Once and Future Bride.
There are a few more in my head who I haven't found names for yet. About three or four.
I think I'll turn them into a Tarot. A Xiphoid Tarot.
Choyofaque.
There are a few people on my friend's list that I have no clue who there are.
First line of a story I am working on: "I first met Jessica during Sunday Mass, when I came in the middle of Amazing Grace."
Gotta go.

Date: 2002-06-02 04:58 pm (UTC)But, yes, strange as it is, I've noticed that a lot of generally monogamous people throw that out the window when they hit a major SCA event....
I do have gripes about the SCA, but for the most part, I've got to got to say that I appreciate and respect the fact that they have done what you mentioned -- created a world of their own making, that they can go and live in for a few weekends a year
