Despite the world often being a generally nasty place, I am still firmly of the opinion that life can be good.

There are a lot of good things in life. It seems that they get lost in the day-to-day grind, but I have to remember that there is good.

Here are some of the good things in my life:
* Mousie - As much as taking care of Mousie has strained both me and Eleri, she still makes me happy. She jumps up and down and says "Dada!" when I get home. No matter how bad my day has been, that makes it a lot better.
* [livejournal.com profile] eleri - I love my wife very much. We fight, sure. We have disagreements, yes. Sometimes they get ugly. Sometimes domestic life becomes too much for me. But coming home to her and seeing her happy to see me is another thing that makes a bad day better. The fact that she is at least vaguely interested in the weird stuff I find interesting (Sinnish, gaming, etc) makes me feel less alone in the world. And the fact that she doesn't give up on me even when I do reminds me that maybe I'm not so bad after all.
* Chicken Quesadillas from Teco Bell - Sometimes it's the little things. It's junk food, yes. But it always brightens my day just a little bit.
* AOL Instant Messenger - If it weren't for AIM, I simply would have no connection to anyone. I've been able to stay in contact with people I am far away from on a regular basis and used it to meet new people. I guess it's a sign of the Internet Age to have friends that one has never met, or most of one's interaction is through real-time text. My life would be considerably different without it.
* bleu cheese - [livejournal.com profile] ryoganox made me a hamburger a week or two ago with bleu cheese in the middle then grilled it on our BBQ. I know a lot of people don't like bleu cheese, but I just adore it. For me, it's better than ice cream, it's better than chocolate.
* Harry Potter - The Harry Potter stuff has just kept me entertained so much, from the books to the movies to reading stuff online to playing the computer game.
* Myst - And it's sequels too. I have so much fun playing games like that. I love the surreal feel of it. I liked the novels based on it too. And it has a constructed language in it too. How cool can you get?
* Getting close to people - There is something about getting close to people that just makes the world seem right. Whether it's a night out with Eleri, like we did a few weeks ago, or meeting someone new online, or going to hang out with someone for the first time and ending up making out on their couch, it just makes me feel so incredibly alive and happy to be alive.
* Figuring out a problem at work - I like feeling competent. Figuring out a problem at work certainly helps me feel so. The fact that I'm considered an expert by some at work means a lot to me. It feels really good to be held in high esteem.
* Buckaroo Banzai - It's just way too cool. Especially the book.

I used to have a 'grateful journal'. I've been thinking about starting it up again. For every entry, I would write at least one thing good that happened that day; something I was grateful for. It really helped keep things in perspective.

I think that if couples don't fight, there's something wrong! It means you're communicating and connecting and not bottling things up inside and building resentment.

I haven't tried those Chicken Quesadillas. I'll get on that.

Lastly- every time I log onto AIM, I don't see you. BUt perhaps that's because I don't log on often or for very long. I miss chatting with you... I'll keep a better eye out for you.
