Here is an update:

Miri has been doing very well today. She's back to normal levels of destruction. Even a bit better.

Something we noticed after the meltdown - she started putting together more compelx sentences. Her behavior and comprehension have been better too. It's like her meltdown was part of her suddenly advancing in development. And as we talked about it, we realized she did this before.

We talked to Miri's psychiatrist. He felt that since Miri was doing so much better that extra medication or hospitalization would not be necessary. However, he did give us some stronger meds to use in a dire emergency hen all other options have run out.

We'll be working on backup plans. Disability services is connecting us with a few sub-acute care facilities and a behavioral specialist. So we may have more options soon. Eleri has been working like mad getting everything coordinated.

The doctor took us seriously. Of course, the fact that he could see Eleri's bite mark and my black eye gave him concrete things to point at. But it was nice to be taken seriously. Or at least to see that seriousness very plainly. I've heard too many people act like they don't understand what our problem is since Miri is such a sweet girl when they are around.

So we are exhausted, but alive. And it seems to me that there is a ray of hope. For me, that makes a lot of difference.
