Pagan Unity Campaign for Summer Solstice
Jun. 8th, 2005 10:13 pm~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since summer solstice 2001, PUC has led a post card mailing to Congress, and the President as well as local officials on each
Summer Solstice. We are working to make 2005's 'I AM' campaign even bigger than the previous ones. With this loud and proud message delivered en masse this summer we hope to tell our elected officials that many of their constituents are Pagans, and that we are everywhere in society not just the silent minority, that many assume us to be. On your post cards simply say "I am a Pagan -fill in the blank-" (i.e. Veteran, Fireman, Voter, Mother, etc.) PUC asks that all Pagans sent at least 4 post cards this summer solstice, June 21st, 2005; one to the President, one to each of their state's two Senators, and one to their district's representative in Congress. Let's stop being the unheard, let's stand up together and make our voices ring out across Lady Liberty's great land!
Send your post cards to:
President George W. Bush
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Date: 2005-06-09 02:26 pm (UTC)I'd like the campaign if I had any respect for the people involved. PUC's leaders have said they don't represent "satanists or other evil cults" that "pretend" to be pagan... but they won't say who those "evil cults" are. I asked if they included Discordians. No answer, from either my state leader or Ginger Strivelli, but the state leader did say she didn't think Discordianism was a real religion.
They don't have a membership so that the leaders can't be voted out by unhappy consitituents. They won't say who they're working for, other than "pagans"--yet they don't mind offending large groups of pagans.
Their politics got thrashed at the Cauldron, a recon-friendly pagan forum.
http://forums.delphiforums.com/CUSTOM7999/messages?msg=5924.1 is the start of the debate; Stormbear (their pres at the time) entered at http://forums.delphiforums.com/CUSTOM7999/messages?msg=5924.204.
(*Long* debate/flamewar. But worth reading, especially if you fall into a group that PUC might decide is "evil." They want the support of people whose religious rights they have no intention of including in their communications with politicians.)
