Preaching to the choir

This is nothing new, but this quote from an article realy struck me:
"It is nortworthy that Knapp (1975) found that therapists considered people who were involved in secret extramarital affairs to be more'normal' than those who communicated honestly with their partners about their participation in other relationships."

Well, 'normal' isn't neccessarily good. It's just the standard. After all, people who exhibit above-standard levels of compassion and altruism are just as deviant from the norm as people who are on the polar opposite.

Well, I agree. The fact is, though, therapists are trying to get people back to 'normal'. It's the implication that lying about who you are sleeping with seems to be healthier than not lying and arranging the situation so it's okay.
