The day after...
May. 28th, 2006 12:05 amWell, today was a relatively okay day for the Mouse. No meltdowns. We picked up the sedatives for when she gets out of control. She's getting the lowest possible dose (0.01 ml, I think). She also did very well at the Wuzzle wedding. She danced to Gaia Consort music (live!), as that is her favorite music - if I had a nickel for every times she's insisted on listening to "We're Gonna Move to the Country" in the last week, I could pay off my car. In fact, I think she was particularly popular. And I wore out on the people and noise before she did. Note to those of you who met/saw me there - I have all sorts of social anxiety, especially when I am watching Mouse. So I apologize if I wasn't particularly responsive.
However, when she was ready to go, she was really ready to go. She was out like a light as soon as we started driving home.
So overall, a good day. But that doesn't change my opinion on what we need to be doing. We need to persue short and long term options (long term meaning a year or two - the program at Harvard averages to a year and a half). The longer term ones may take a bit. We were told that getting the school district here to agree (esp since they'd probably be funding it) would be difficult. They've had people have to get lawyers and fight for a year or two. But, I sincerely believe this is what we are going to need. She needs that sort of environment to grow, and we're just not able to give it to her right now, because we are tired, worn out and sick/ We don't even just get her out of the house much because we are so tired and despondent. We need to regroup and learn skills, and so does she.

Date: 2006-05-28 06:46 pm (UTC)It seems what you really need is help here and now. I know that many community centers have day programs for adults with special needs, are there ones out there for children? Also, if you had some safe places for mouse to go and play for an hour or two (indoor play areas, fenced playgrounds, etc.) it would reduce the sheer amount of running after that she needs. Unfortunately, running is out of the question for me at the moment, but let me know if there's anything I can do to help.
Mouse is adorable and I know how difficult this situation is for you both. Hugs and warm fuzzies to all three of you!
