Advice?

I have an interview tomorrow for a trainer position here at work. The interview includes a 15 minute presentation where I 'train' the interviewer on something involving our workplace or one of our products.

Now I could just do a lecture on something I know about (like Fonts). The upshot of this is that I'd give a strong presentation on it. The problem is that it is mostly lecture, and thus might not give a good showcase of a variety of trainign skills. Second, it's mostly theory or just data, which may simply zone them out.

Another idea would be to try something that is a little more interactive, but that may be difficult to do in 15 mins with minimal prep time and sound confident about it.

So, which do you think is better? If I do the first, are there things you can think of that would make a mostly dry lecture more palatable? Anyy trainers out tehre who can give me suggestions on whatever for a 15 mins training interview?

I'd work from your strength, especially given that you only have 15 minutes - then again, my advice might be worth less than what you're paying for it.

consider that *they* know just how silly it is to expect a well-rounded training in 15 minutes... what they want is highlights. So I'd go with fonts and focus on why a tech would need to know fonts for the job.

do you have time to make and run off some copies of relevant training material?

Maybe a powerpoint presentation?
Visuals can help.

If you have the time, work out a 5 or so minute lecture and if you can do some sort of chart thing as some folks are visual learners, and maybe 5 minutes on a hands on sort of thing for the active learners, and I think you would get it. You will have to make allowances for folks learning styles. It's a hot topic these days.

What she said. Plus, if the interactive part throws you a curve ball, you get to show them you think fast on your feet.

Good luck.

Maybe you should try something with props.

You could do a lesson on how to use an Aspect terminal...
