As I am falling prey to the time-honored LJ tradition of bitching about life, I might as well continue.

So we are cleaning up today, moving furnature around in our apartment. We have this really worn out couch. And out back from our apartment is an area with a bunch of old furnature and stuff. We've seen people toss stuff in there all the time. So I assumed it was a over size garbage area.

So the 13 year old and I drag the couch out to it. As we are doing it, a maintanence guy cames by and asks what we are doing. I tell him we're tossing an old sofa. He looks at us for a sec and says "Throw it in."

Later that night, we find a note on our door about a 'violation', saying we were observed tossing garbage into an area for maintanence to throw stuff and which the complex is charged for hauling stuff away. We are warned that if we are caught doing it again, we'll be fined double the charge to haul it away and "this must not happen again."

I'm really incredibly pissed off. I can handle the fact that I made a mistake and made an assumption. I have no problem paying for the hauling charge or arranging it's removal myself. But an employee from the complex saw me BEFORE I put it in there and didn't bother to tell me I was about to do something I wasn't supposed to and then I get a nasty note on my door about it. And it's a carbon duplicate, meaning that the original is now 'in our file'.

I went down to the office and they were closed. So I'm going to talk to them tomorrow.

I'm alternating between being really pissed and being paranoid - the last thing I need is a pissy landlors poking into our house when we have trouble keeping it together and when Mousie is so hard on everything from the walls to the carpet.

*sigh* I'm just tired again. But I'm giving them an earful tomorrow.

Well, if the maintence guy TOLD you to throw it in, why didn't he say something then? Did you by any chance get his name? The office will probably ask for it.

Definitely give them an earful - you were informed, by an employee, that what you were doing was appropriate. If they insist on leaving the fool thing in your file, you should at least be able to add that you were misinformed.
