Well, the day has been interesting.
So I called into work today so I could help Eleri figure out what was going on. Anyway, I talked to the managers and yes, the apartments have been sold. They didn't seem to have a definite timeframe, but said they'd like to have people out in three months or so. Turns out the actual letter on our dooir was from the former managers about their other location (the new managers still haven't made an announcement). The previous owners were inviting 'good tenants' to apply at their other property. So we drove over to look at the place.
Plusses:
* It's a nicer place. Nicer neighborhood. There are actual trees around.
* It's not directly next to a major
* It has a pool. Miri LOVES water.
* It has forced air heat for part of the apartment.
* It's a little bigger, much better layout.
* It has a fireplace.
* It's only about 5-6 miles farther out.
Minuses:
* Smaller kitchen
* The deck is definitely not Miri-proof.
* No playground onsite like the one we have now.
* The heaviest traffic in North Seattle is between the place and Adobe.
* It's in the next county, which means starting over on getting services.
* It's $200 more per month.
* We'll be farther away from the few people we have met.
Counterpoints:
* Even though it is in the next county, this county hasn't gotten much done, so we aren't losing anything by moving.
* Since we already have a lease with this company, they are willing to transfer our lease. So no application fees, the deposits transfer over. The only monetary difference is the $200/month, which will be in our budget once we are established.
* The managers at the new place are fine with us making any reasonable modifications we need to for Miri.
* The managers there seemed very amenable in general, even when we mentioned Miri's needs.
So, the upsot of all of this? We took the new place. They are going to get things transferred and let us know when we can move. And we can arrange things from there.
But wait, there's more. So as soon as we decided to move over, we started calling the few contacts we had to see about transferring things to a different county after we just got them started in this county, so we got some phone numbers. I talked to Disability Services in that county and they asked that we submit everything that we could find so it could be in place when we move. They said until we actually move to that county, we can't start actual services. Even though we were getting services in Oregon, Washington has different criteria and we have to get an eligibility check before we could start being processing. We've been waiting on it from King county (where we currently live).
I get a call an hour later. It's the same person from the other county. Apparently, we ARE eligible for services in the state of Washington - the check has been done. Of course, it was the first we'd heard of it. So I asked the date and the person looked it up. We've been eligible for almost two weeks. Yup. And no one told us. The person I was talking to was very apologetic and seemed annoyed herself by it. So she looked up our case worker so we could ask to get some help over the interim before we move and get all of the files transferred. I impressed upon her that we have been without services and are really starting to wear away again. She seemed to understand.
So, that was my day.
eleri is exhausted by it all and has been getting a well-deserved rest and I've been watching the Mouse, who except for a few meltdowns, has been pretty good.
